Spring Semester Guidelines
Remember that the class format has changed from the fall semester. In the fall, the keyboarding class concentrated on
learning new keys and which fingers to use for each. Now we are concentrating on accuracy even more and posture.
Each class will now be worth 10 points, and here is the breakdown...
· Pencil and Paper – 1 Point
· Eyes not on the keyboard – 1 Point
· Feet flat on the floor – 1 Point
· Keyboard at the front of the table – 1 Point
· Back is against the chair – no slouching – 1 Point
· Wrists straight – 1 Point
· Seat is adjusted – 1 Point
· Typing with the fingertips and on the home row – 1 Point
· Exercises – 2 Points
o Doing the exercises – 1 Point
o Marking down errors – 1 Point
Be sure to make up any missed classes - otherwise 10 points is lost!
Also be sure to keep quiet - others are concentrating. Those students being disruptive will be asked to sit in the
media center and will lose the points for the class!

Week of 1/23/12
Iowa assessment testing is this week. With the schedule change and shorter classes, the class will not be focusing
on the textbook, but instead on the internet. A website exists called www.freetypinggame.net which contains a
variety of games such as desert racing and a dancing game. For those who like the classic games of the 80s are
space invaders, missile command, and asteroids - all revamped to work with keyboarding! As an extra twist
we're using keyboard covers to work on keeping the eyes on the text, and the fingers on the keyboard. Not only will
we find out how good a gamer the student is, but also how good a keyboarder too!

Week of 2/20/12
Midterms are done as are Parent Teacher conferences. Thank you to the many parents who came in to discuss their children's education. We are now finishing up the last of the alphabet, and will be doing a keyboarding test to see how everyone is doing with all the letters. Now comes the tough part of the course - the special keys and numbers. Students will get very familiar with the Shift key as it will be used for more than just creating upper case letters. Encourage your son or daughter to spend a little more time on the keyboard as this section will be trickier.
